Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Every year, the Wesleyan community comes together to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in April with a variety of events, initatives, performances, and celebrations.  Please come out and support as many of the great events listed below as you are able!

Pastries, Drinks, and SEAnema Film Screening

Event Time and Date: Friday, March 27th, 5:30 pm-7:00 pm

Event Description: Join us for an afternoon of Southeast Asian-inspired sweet treats and a free screening of The Last Harvest, an indie documentary film on the displacement of Malaysian farmers and fisherfolk by state governments. A community discussion on agricultural justice in the postcolonial Global South will follow the film screening.

 

 

2026 AAPI Month Convocation

Event Description: Kick off AAPI Month with AASC at the 2026 AAPI Month Convocation, an evening of community, reflection, and celebration centered on this year’s theme: Beyond the Model Minority. Hear from Asian/Asian American students, faculty, and alumni as they share stories, insights, and calls to action. Come through and be in community. 

 

 

Central Asian Music Ensemble Noontime Concert

Event Time and Date: April 2nd, 2026, 12:00 pm-1:00 pm

Event Description: Wesleyan’s Central Asian Music Ensemble under the direction of Assistant Professor of Music Saida Daukeyeva performs a concert exploring the connection between music, sound, and animistic worldviews in Central Asian nomadic cultures. The ensemble program features instrumental tunes and songs that evoke images of animals, birds, and landscapes.

 

 

Leonor Will Never Die Film Screening

Korean Culture Festival

Event Description: Join the Korean Student Association for the Korean Culture Festival—a lively celebration featuring dance/music performances, Korean food, and activities that invite you to experience and appreciate Korean culture in a fun, welcoming space.

 

 

AAPI Month Tea Time

Event Description:  AAPI Month Tea Time at the Asian/Asian American House is a cozy hangout for sipping teas from across Asian & Pacific communities and “sharing the tea” through storytelling. Expect Kahoot trivia, board games, and karaoke. Centering AAPI experiences, welcoming all Wesleyan folks, come connect, learn, and build community.

 

 

High and Low Film Screening

Event Description:  (attendance open to the public)1963. Japan. Dir: Akira Kurosawa. 2h 23min. (Free). It tells the story of Japanese businessman Kingo Gondō (Mifune) struggling for control of the major shoe company of which he is a board member. He plans a leveraged buyout of the company with his life savings, when a kidnapper mistakenly abducts his chauffeur's son to ransom him for ¥30 million.

 

AAPI Jazz: A Jam Session and Listening Party

AAPI Alumni Panel

Event Description: AASC is hosting a gathering centered on Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander community-building—an opportunity for AAPI students and alumni to connect, network, and feel at home at Wesleyan. Hard Boiled Film Screening

The film stars Chow Yun-fat as Inspector "Tequila" Yuen, alongside Tony Leung Chiu-wai and Teresa Mo. It follows a hard-boiled police inspector whose pursuit of a violent Triad syndicate draws him into a dangerous operation involving an undercover officer working deep within the criminal organization.

 

 

Food, Agricultural Justice & ARTivism from Southeast Asia to Connecticut

Holi

Event Description: This is the festival of colors, usually celebrated in the Spring. In the past, we have ordered white t-shirts for those participating, and it takes place on Foss Hill.

 

 

Ankh AAPI Archival Display

Event Organizers: The Ankh Board (Wesleyan's student of color magazine)—Tasmiah Akter, Sandrine Alouidor, Vandana Ravi

Event Description:  Ankh AAPI Archival Display. We will display past Ankh issues dedicated to art and writing by AAPI students, dating back to 1985; students will be invited to read, share, and contribute to these archival materials. Boba tea will be served. 

 

 

AAPI Month Formal
